OOTD: Arabella

Last Friday I went to go and see the Arctic Monkeys play in Finsbury Park (who were phenominal by the way) so for a gig that was outdoors in the cold standing up, I wanted to dress practical......

HA! I'm just shitting ya, I never dress practical. Hence this outfit. I have to say In my defence, I can hold my own in those manifest boots.
I absolutely love this dress from Gap, It's so versatile, I can dress it up or down.. It's definitely becoming a wardrobe staple for me at the moment.

What I'm Wearing...
Blazer: Zara
Dress: Gap
Belt: Primark
Shoes: Manifest Boots - Allsaints

I'd also like to say a quick thanks to everyone who reads this blog as I have now hit 100 followers on bloglovin.. I know to some that doesn't seem like a lot but I didn't expect that 20 people would even read this blog let alone 100 so thankyou so much!

As always please feel free to leave me a comment below,

Thanks for reading, Ash xx

Editing Myself.

Over the past few months there seems to have been some sort of wide spread epiphany regarding the negative sides to blogging and social media in general.

It's the thing we love to hate but can't live without, selfies with a valencia filter complete with the perfect tagline and #hashtag.

I too can hold my hands up and be like 'yep, guilty'.

And recently It's got me thinking, how much of ourselves do we actually edit online?

There have been countless times in the past where I've gone to write a tweet and retracted it at the last minute because of what people might think, There's not a single selfie I post without a filter because I lack serious confidence in my appearance. I even read back some of my blog posts and don't recognise myself because I think,

'This just doesn't sound like me '.

Sure I do love make up and fashion and all things girly, I'm in no way fake about any of that..  But I also swear like a trooper, I occasionally get obscenely pissed, my room is messy and disorganised 80% of the time, in fact my whole life is pretty messy and disorganised 80% of the time and my bank account is constantly struggling to stay above the dreaded DR.

Sometimes I just feel that the reality of my life doesn't truly align with my 'online' self. I don't know whether this is because I feel there is a certain expectation of how I should be, or whether its because I'm comparing myself to other bloggers, or even If its some strange sort of anxiety.

But then I think,

'well surely it's the reality that counts, I don't need to document all of my life on here?

The people I am close to, my family, my friends, Jay.. They all know me, the real life 3D me, the #nofilter me.
It doesn't make me a fraud for holding back on some of the finer details of my life, maybe that's just my way of keeping it for myself?

One of my biggest flaws is definitely caring too much about what other people think, and perhaps its that anxiety that has led me to writing this post. I was nervous about even starting a blog in the first place because I thought people would take the piss out of me and there are undoubtedly a select few that read this blog and think to themselves,

'What a load of toss '...

'Ashlee is nothing like this '..

I'd be lying if I were to say that doesn't bother me, because it does. Evidently

But the fact is social media, is very much anti-social. I can't possibly illustrate every dimension of my personality on here, and I'm not sure I'd even want to. And try as I may to put some of myself on here, it would be very difficult to get to know me via a blog. I'm a real person and every day I'm different.

I guess I just don't want anyone to be under some sort of illusion.

Does anyone else feel this way about blogging or social media? Do you find yourself editing areas of your life online? Or on the opposite end of the scale do you think you are completely yourself when It comes to social media? Do you give zero fucks?

I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks for reading my recent pondering,

Ash xx

Free From Frizz

The lovely people at Free From Frizz & Media Hubb were kind enough to send me a few of their products to try last month, so after using them (quite a bit as you can see) I thought I'd share with you how I got on what I thought etc. So essentially a review?..

Now a little unknown fact about me (unknown if you haven't seen me in the mornings) Is that I have the most ridiculous curly frizzy thick hair. Its by no means long, just an un-tame mane. This gets particularly bad if its left to dry naturally and in hot humid weather. So you can imagine my delight when I received this in the post just in time for me to go to Barcelona, where it was predicted 82% humidity.

So I started with the 6 week blow out treatment that claims to leave hair 'free from frizz' for up to 6 weeks using patent pending technology including floraceuticals and keratin to smooth the hair without the use of harsh chemicals. This helps to conquer the frizz, block humidity and leave the hair feeling silky soft. Already sounds like my kinda product.

The kit is super easy to use and comes with clear instructions which i'll briefly skim over....

  • Firstly you cleanse your hair twice and comb through with the pre cleanser and brush provided but Don't condition.
  • Next towel dry and section the hair into 3 before applying the keratin treatment over the hair brushing down as you go.
  • Allow treatment 30-40 minutes to absorb and rinse with warm water, towel dry/blow dry hair before straightening taking care to make sure each hair strand is straightened but avoid over heating.
  • Make sure hair is left down and not washed for 48 hours (Don't make plans to leave the house or anything).

It is highly important the instructions are followed carefully as this is a chemical treatment so treat it as if you are applying a home dye and that leaving on too long/over heating etc will frazzle your hair.

This has honestly worked wonders for my hair! I was actually able to wear it down in a hot/humid country which never happens, my hair always becomes too frizzy and I have to put it up. And the longer time has gone on, the better it seems to be getting! I haven't had to straighten my hair much if at all after washing and it feels soft and healthy. I'm genuinely thrilled with the results and how well behaved my hair has been since applying the treatment.

I've been following up the treatment using the shampoo and conditioner, which smells amazing by the way, and is advised as it helps prolong the effects of the treatment. It definitely leaves my hair feeling silky soft and helps to battle the trauma of the frizz on a daily basis. I also love the fact this is for thick hair as since the condition of my hair has improved (after bleaching it to death) it's thickened up loads so my choices in shampoo has had to change some what as light weight airy fairy stuff just won't cut it any more.

I would highly recommend anyone who suffers from a crazy mane like mine to try this because the results speak for themselves and the smell is heaven. Free From Frizz 6 week blowout mango kit for thick/coarse hair currently retails in boots for £14.99, whilst the shampoo and conditioner for £5.99 each. Fear not, if your hair is not thick they also offer a treatment, shampoo and conditioner for normal/fine hair. Alternatively you can visit their website by clicking here, where you can buy the treatment AND the shampoo and conditioner all together for the bargain price of £26.97.
I will say ( In a pointy index finger/mum kinda way) that the instructions are there for a reason and to follow them to the T. Over saturating and leaving this product on for longer is not the same as it would be if you were using a conditioning treatment, it does involve chemicals!! Please please, don't kill/frazzle/break your hair.

Lecture aside, I hope you enjoyed reading my little review, please feel free to leave me a comment.. Have you tried any of the products from the free from frizz range? If so how did you get on? Do you know any other products that work just as well? If so.... TELL ME!

Thanks for reading,

Ash xxx

Barcelona: OOTD

Hola! Hola! I am back from the beautiful Barcelona which I am truly gutted about! I had an amazing time, there was so much to do and the weather as you can see from the photo's was glorious.. I will be doing a post on some of the places we visited, and little tips etc etc if you are planning on going anytime soon, or just need some persuading.

These photo's were taken on mine and Jays first full day out exploring when we went to go see the Sagrada Familia, which is this incredible unfinished roman catholic church. The church has been under construction since 1883 and is still being finished under the many influences of different architects and designers. If you go to Barcelona this is a must see because it's a phenomenal building/work of art.

But as aforementioned I will be doing a much more detailed post on all the touristy bits, for now this post much more superficial/fashion based....

What I'm wearing....

Fedora Hat: Boohoo
Sunglasses: Vintage Shop (Jemporium, Cambridge)
Playsuit: Boohoo
Platform Sandals: Topshop
Bag (which you can't see!): Primark

I was so happy that the weather was nice and hot so I got to wear this playsuit which I am in love with!
Apologies for not being able to see the bag in these photo's, you can check that out in my previous post

Thanks for reading..
