Arctic Monkeys - AM.. Album of the Year?

If you're a fan of the Arctic Monkeys or are into you're alternative music you will probably have heard the hype surrounding the release of their latest album AM.

If you haven't heard of the Arctic Monkeys or don't know much about them, they are a 4 piece British band from Sheffield that fall into the indie/alternative/rock genre. The band consists of Alex Turner - lead vocals, Jamie Cook - lead/rhythm guitarist, Nick O'Malley - bass and backing vocals and Matt Helders - Drums. To date they have released 5 number 1 selling studio albums including their debut album titled 'Whatever people say I am that's what I'm not' which is the fastest selling UK debut album in history!

In case you haven't already guessed I'm a huge fan myself and own all 5 albums (Even though admittedly 'Suck it and see' wasn't my favourite, sorry guys!).
When I heard they were releasing 'AM' on the 9th of this month, I was so excited as I'd already heard a few of the tracks on radio 1 and via their YouTube channel, so first chance I got I purchased it and it did not disappoint!

AM is probably their most different album yet but still continuing with their unusual lyrics that bring feelings of nostalgia. Alex's voice maintains the unique northern twang we're all so fond of singing songs of drunken nights, sex and girls but with more of a 70's-esq rock sound making each song as catchy as the last. The album balances itself with a few softer tracks such as 'No.1 Party Anthem', 'Mad Sounds' and 'I Wanna Be Yours'. If I had to pick a favourite track I'd have to say R U Mine? Just because I love turning it up really loud in my car and belting it out (rather out of tune). I don't think there is a single song I don't enjoy which is rare in an album cause there's always that one song where you press 'skip'. I may be getting ahead of myself but I would go as far as to say AM could be the album of this year.

AM is available to purchase on iTunes for £7.99 and retails in stores for around £9.00.
